About Us

Our goal is to achieve sustainable improvements in the health status and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in Charleville and Western Areas by delivering high quality health care.

Charleville and Western Areas Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Community Health was founded in 1993 and incorporated in April, 1994 and the objects for which the Company was established include all or any of the following, which is in relation to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in the Charleville and Western Areas.

The primary objective for which the Company is established is for the public charitable purpose of the relief of sickness, poverty and disadvantage amongst the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population of the Charleville and Western Area.

Subsidiary objects to be addressed by the Company in pursuit of its primary objective shall include:

 

  1. The provision/purchase of comprehensive/holistic primary health care and related services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Charleville and Western Area;
  2. The development and provision of public health and education programs appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Charleville and Western Area;
  3. The development of strategic alliances with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and “mainstream” (including Queensland Government and local Government) entities/agencies responsible for the provision of health and health related services in the Charleville and Western Area, for the purpose of achieving the Company’s primary objective and with particular emphasis on coordination of health service planning and health service delivery;
  4. The taking of appropriate measures to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within the Charleville and Western Area participate individually or collectively in the identification of health needs, planning and development of programs, and the implementation of health care service strategies;
  5. The disseminating of information within the wider Australian Community about:
    1. the special difficulties experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a minority in the Community;
    2. the existing inequalities in health status between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the Charleville and Western Area and the wider Australian Community;
    3. the need for support from government and other agencies in order for such problems to be overcome;
  6. The receiving and spending of funding from government and other sources, and the maintenance of administrative and financial procedures to ensure accountability to both the funding donors and the Members of the Company in relation to the use of such funding;
  7. The collation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health data from the Charleville and Western Area for the purpose of policy development, advocacy, and research into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in the Charleville and Western Area;
  8. To operate and maintain a Gift Deductible Fund entitled – “Charleville and Western Areas Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Community Health Limited Gift Deductible Fund”.
