History

The Charleville and Western Areas Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Community Health (CWAATSICH) was officially opened on Friday 29th of April 1994.

Founding members were:

CWAATSICH original commencement of operations was the Bidjara Office located at 51 Wills Street, followed by Galatea and back to Will Street, where the Centrelink office was located. Finally in 2003, CWAATSICH staff settled in the new purpose built health premises located at 94 Edward St.

The original region CWAATSICH covered encompassed the towns of Charleville, Mitchell, Roma, Surat, Bollon, Cunnamulla, Wyandra, Quilpie, Windorah, Augathella and surrounding areas.

Under a revamped constitution, it saw CWAATSICH regional areas change to encompass Charleville, Mitchell, Roma, Surat, Quilpie, Windorah and Augathella and surrounding smaller towns within the shire regions of the above townships.

In 2009, Charleville Western Areas Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health became deregistered Under the CATSI Act, 2006 as of 9th October 2009 and is NOW REGISTERED under ASIC Incorporation Act, 2001 (Cth) as of 17th of September 2009 as Charleville and Western Areas Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Community Health Ltd (CWAATSICH Ltd).
